Main : Solar Pathfinder Assistant software
Solar Pathfinder Assistant software

Version 3.0 generates monthly sunpaths for each specific site latitude (instead of relying on the stock latitude band diagrams as in previous versions). Includes weather data for North America (Canada & USA), Central America, Europe, Southwest Pacific (as listed in the WMO Regions 4,5 & 6 –listed at the bottom of page). All other sites will receive % of solar radiation only.

  • USER-FRIENDLY!!
  • Stand-alone software (no internet connection necessary)
  • Customizable report by putting in your company's name and logo
  • Automatically adjusts for magnetic declination, latitude, etc.
  • Allows for changes in azimuth (degree east/west of true south)
  • Allows for changes in tilt angle & mode (fixed, 1-axis, 2-axis)
  • Automatically does computations (using NREL data) for:
    • Percentage of sunlight
    • Azimuth/altitude measurements
    • Solar Radiation (kWhr/m^2/day)
    • AC power (kWhr)
  • Can show "before/after" results of taking trees or obstructions out of site area
  • Lists makes/models of PV panels & invertors (automatically giving DC rate/derate factors)
  • Averages multiple analysis (4 corners of an array, etc.)
  • CSI-EPBB compliant
  • MS Vista-ready
  • Manual on disc/download
*Exports to: PDF, CSV, CSI website, OnGrid software, spreadsheets, etc.

System Requirements:

  • Solar Pathfinder unit
  • Digital Camera
  • PC using MS Windows
    Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
    Recommended RAM: 256MB
Disk space used at install: 60 MB (includes 25MB for .NET 2.0)

Because the software includes all the latitude diagrams, the Pathfinders purchased with the software (being shipped to USA addresses) will be "prepackaged" having:
5 - 25-31 degrees N. Latitude Southfacing
5 - 31-37 degrees N. Latitude Southfacing
5 - 37-43 degrees N. Latitude Southfacing
5 - 43-49 degrees N. Latitude Southfacing

All updates for this version are free!! I am in the process of contacting all 1.0 and 1.1 users to give them the update (version 1.1.1).

Well worth the money
by Jim Duncan on Nov 15, 2006

I bought the 1.1 version as soon as I read it was available. I was in the process of creating a MS Excel spreadsheet that would do the same basic calculations only using the standard Pathfinder template with the numbers entered manually. I wanted something professional looking to offer a client.
The Assistant saves me a lot of work and customers are impressed with the printed copies I leave with them as a part of their site survey fee.
My only complaint is the difficulty of trying to explain to them what the columns of numbers mean. I don't print more than 3-4 basic sets of numbers to keep it simple. A clearer explanation of what the percentages ect mean would be helpful.

single-axis tracking model
by Peter Carrie on Nov 19, 2006

Hi Folks: Great tool! I take it the single-axis tracking option is for pole-mounted azimuth trackers. it would be very useful for large systems, if there was a tracking option to handle roll-type ("teeter-totter")trackers aligned on a north-south axis. Thanks!

MAC version
by Jolyon H. Sawrey on Dec 14, 2006

We love the pathfinder, the new software appears beneficial but we need a mac version.

    by D Sterling on Dec 16, 2006

You could always try VirtualPC (for PowerPC) or Parallels Desktop (for Intel) on a Mac in the meantime.

    Re: MAC version
by Solar Pathfinder on Dec 15, 2006

We are receiving several requests for a MAC version. If you are interested in the SPA, but need a MAC version, Please drop us a line (using the Contact Us page) and let us know. We will make a contact list for when we have it ready.

Great investment!
by Larry Owens on Jun 19, 2007

Great investment! Compared to manually entering each datapoint, the Pathfinder Assistant does it all for you.
The reports are very helpful when meeting with clients.
Now, if you can come up with numbers for Solar DHW applications it would make an already good product even better!

Thanks for the comment, Tim. The release of version 2.0 is immanent. Our next update (after this one) plans to have thermal. Thanks!

Fantastic software! Wonderful product!
by Tim Gooding on Jun 22, 2007

I expect you hear this all the time, but the pathfinder with the new software is fantastic! I had used the "analog" version a few years ago. Effective, but really pretty tedious. Thank you for a really wonderful product.

Great sales tool!
by Glen Morris, Australia on Jun 22, 2007

Bye-the-way, having been a user of the plain SPF without the software for many years, I must say that the software takes the tool to a much higher level. It's a great sales tool too - looks very impressive when showing a customer their solar window.

Thanks for the good work. I eagerly await version 2.0

Getting better and better!

Great service; great software
by Maxey on May 20, 2008

All,

Thanks for your help in achieving an "on time" delivery. I think I opened the link at 1:00 p.m yesterday and I was sitting in the communication director's office with printed reports in hand by 3:00 p.m. He took my proposal to the ORNL Laboratory Director before COB yesterday and I should have a response today.

I appreciate your assistance.

Best regards,

Cur
